Media sources reported that a FedEx big rig with multiple trailers overturned on Highway 25 Wednesday morning near Travelers Rest, creating traffic problems for holiday drivers.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5am on Highway 25, roughly one mile south of Highway 11 and just north of Travelers Rest. The vehicle was carrying a full load of packages, however none spilled onto the roadway. Officials were optimistic initially, as emergency crews were able to move the rig onto the median. But troopers reported that all of the packages would have to be moved to another truck before the truck could be righted. This process was expected to close the roadway.
No injuries and no other vehicle accidents were reportedly involved in this accident thus far. At the time of this release, highway traffic was still backed up significantly and officials were advising the public to expect delays, as troopers were unaware of how long the cleanup would take.
