A paramedic is facing obstruction of justice charges in connection with a fatal crash, during the aftermath of which she allegedly took marijuana from a suspect at the crash scene, report news sources.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested the 27-year-old Berkely County EMS employee after she reportedly surrendered herself to authorities Friday afternoon. The Summerville woman was slated to face a bond hearing later that evening.
At the scene of the November 10 fatal two-vehicle collision in question, the EMS worker was supposedly spotted by a witness removing a small package of marijuana from the person of a Moncks Corner woman who was injured in the crash. The drugs were later recovered by investigators, and now in addition to the obstruction of justice charge, the EMS employee also faces a possession of marijuana charge. The obstruction of justice charge is a misdemeanor that carries a sentence of up to 10 years.

One woman is dead and another is facing charges of driving under the influence after a head-on crash near Moncks Corner on Thursday night, report news sources.
According the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 9 p.m. as a 2000 Saturn was traveling southbound on Broughton Road. A northbound 2005 BMW crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Saturn.
Emergency personnel reported to the scene of the crash and transported the drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the BMW for hospital treatment. According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, the driver of the Saturn, a 47-year-old Moncks Corner woman, died in the emergency room of blunt force trauma injuries.
It is not known whether the Saturn driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the BMW, a 33-year-old Moncks Corner woman, and passenger, a 23-year-old woman also of Moncks Corner, were not wearing seatbelts. The Highway Patrol has charged the driver of the BMW with felony driving under the influence.

A woman is facing charges of driving under the influence in connection with a multi-vehicle crash that shut down a Berkeley County road for several hours late Thursday night, report news sources.
According to authorities, the crash occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. and damaged three vehicles including a tractor trailer that sustained heavy damage. The semi was hauling eight 300,000-pound steel coils.
A 47-year-old woman, has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with the crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says she was driving a sport utility vehicle that pulled in front of the tractor trailer. The big rig struck the SUV, went off the road and overturned, coming to rest near the tree line.

A woman is facing driving under the influence charges in connection with an incident in which two firefighters were injured while responding to a separate vehicle crash in Goose Creek, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 12:20 a.m. incident occurred Wednesday morning on US-176 when a 2011 Mazda vehicle struck and injured two firefighters who were part of an emergency medical response crew responding to a single-vehicle crash. The force of the impact shoved the rescue workers against the side of an emergency vehicle.

A man is facing driving under the influence and other charges after a Thursday night police pursuit in Surfside Beach that ended with a car colliding with a Horry County Police Department cruiser, report news sources.
The chase began when motorists reported seeing a seemingly intoxicated driver blocking traffic, traveling at extremely low speeds, and driving on the shoulder and through intersections without yielding. Surfside Beach Police officers located the suspect driving a 1994 Mercury two-door sedan and attempted to execute a traffic stop.
The suspect failed to yield to officers and instead began traveling southbound on U.S. 17. Officers gave chase and at one point deployed tire deflation measures. The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a HCPD cruiser that had arrived to assist in the pursit.
The driver was arrested and is charged with DUI, failure to stop for blue lights, assault on a police officer, reckless driving, and disregarding a traffic signal.

A woman died Wednesday after being hospitalized for injuries suffered in a single-vehicle collision, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 2 p.m. crash occurred on Jones Bridge Road approximately three miles north of Blackville when the truck that the Blackville woman was in went off the right side of the road as it was traveling northbound, overturned and struck a fence post.
The woman was transported to an Augusta, Ga., medical center where she succumbed to her injuries at around 5 p.m., according to the Barnwell County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators say toxicology reports indicate that alcohol was present in the woman’s body. The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

A Monday night collision in Spartanburg involving a train and a pickup truck has left two people injured and one man facing charges of driving under the influence, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 7:40 p.m. crash occurred at the intersection of Mount Calvary Church and Southport roads when a 1997 Ford pickup truck traveling northbound on Mount Calvary Church Road began to cross the tracks in front of an approaching train. The train collided with the truck.
The driver of the pickup, a 48-year-old Spartanburg man, was injured as was the truck’s passenger, a 50-year-old man also of Spartanburg. Both men were taken to a local hospital; the passenger was listed in serious condition Thursday.
On Wednesday, the driver of the truck was arrested and charged with felony DUI with great bodily injury and driving under suspension, third or subsequent offense.

Three men were killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision in Japer County about 15 miles north of Ridgeland, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. 321 and U.S. 601 when the vehicle that the three men were in was struck by a Ford pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Pineland man.
A 41-year-old Beaufort man who was not wearing a seatbelt was killed instantly in collision. The other two occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were the driver, 27, and another passenger, 30, both Garnett residents. They were declared dead at the scene of the crash.

Authorities are investigating the death of an Aiken County man who died Monday evening in a single vehicle crash, report news reports.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the 20-year-old man was driving a 2001 Honda Passport sport utility vehicle westbound on Weeks Road when he attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Authorities say that the vehicle was traveling too fast as it entered the curve and that the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, was partially ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
The driver was declared dead at the scene of the crash of multiple body trauma. Officials found alcohol in the wrecked vehicle, said a Coroner’s Office spokesperson.
A toxicology report is pending, and the incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
