A suspect who allegedly shot a woman was killed after colliding his vehicle, said Anderson County officials. The 33-year-old succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning. Police believe he accidentally shot the woman then drove away in a panic and collided. His vehicle veered off the side of the roadway and crashed into a utility pole along with several trees. The driver was ejected from the car. At the time of the collision, his blood alcohol level was nearly thee times as high as the .08 legal limit, according to news reports.

As a Columbia car accident lawyer, my thoughts are with those involved in this collision. I hope nobody else was harmed in the wreck. Witnesses Asked to Report Drunk Drivers

By Personal Injury Lawyer on December 16, 2011

Law enforcement is reminding drivers to report potential drunk drivers by calling 911. “Every DUI stop or arrest we make is a potential life saved,” S.C. Highway Patrol Troop 6 Commander Capt. Chris Williamson said. “One drink is one too many if you’re planning to drive.” The holidays are associated with consuming alcohol at parties, so law enforcement is stepping up their efforts to prevent drunk driving. Rural roads in particular see a high number of fatalities. DUI Checkpoints will be ready to catch drunk drivers. “When they get to drinking, they forget about (the designated checkpoints),” an officer said. According to news reports, Berkeley County has seen a rise in traffic fatalities during 2011.

A paramedic is facing obstruction of justice charges in connection with a fatal crash, during the aftermath of which she allegedly took marijuana from a suspect at the crash scene, report news sources.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested the 27-year-old Berkely County EMS employee after she reportedly surrendered herself to authorities Friday afternoon. The Summerville woman was slated to face a bond hearing later that evening.

At the scene of the November 10 fatal two-vehicle collision in question, the EMS worker was supposedly spotted by a witness removing a small package of marijuana from the person of a Moncks Corner woman who was injured in the crash. Coastal Carolina Fair Features Drunk Driving Simulation

By Personal Injury Lawyer on November 1, 2011

Attendees of this year’s Coastal Carolina Fair are getting a hands-on lesson in roadway safety courtesy of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, report news sources.

Featured at the fair is a machine that allows a sober person to experience what driving under the influence is really like. The machine does this by altering depth perception and encouraging drivers to overcorrect their actions. The machine also simulates distracted driving, including texting or using a cell phone behind the wheel.

A $20,000 grant from the Office of Highway Safety made it possible for the simulator to be at the Costal Carolina and State fairs. According to the Highway Patrol, South Carolina has the third highest rate for alcohol-related fatalities.

As a Charleston auto accident lawyer, motorist safety is something that I am very conscious of. I encourage drivers never to drink and drive to avoid distractions like texting behind the wheel. Because of my experience as a Charleston personal injury attorney, I am very aware of the split-second difference between everything seeming fine and a terrible vehicle crash. I urge motorists to always practice safe driving habits.
