A man escaped injuries but is being charged for a car accident that may have involved drinking and driving on Saturday in Laurel Hill, according to news reports.
The accident occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday when a South Carolina man was driving on US 74 in Laurel Hill when he reportedly struck a blue 1993 Chevy Caprice driven by a Laurinburg man. He almost struck two other vehicles as he attempted to leave the scene of the accident, according to news reports.
South Carolina Highway Patrol officers followed the man approximately 5.1 miles before they were able to stop him. Troopers said the man’s blood alcohol level was at .24, nearly three times the legal limit.
He was arrested and is being held under bond at the Scotland County Jail, according to news reports.
The incident is being investigated.
As a Columbia car accident attorney, I’m saddened to hear about this alleged drunken driving accident. I’m glad to hear that no one was seriously injured in this collision. I urge drivers to never drink and drive as they not only put themselves at risk, but also everyone around them. I also urge drivers to never leave the scene of a collision.
