A pedestrian died of his injuries after being struck by a sport utility vehicle Saturday in Florence, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 8:25 p.m. incident occurred when a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle struck a pedestrian wearing dark clothing who was attempting to cross North Cashua Drive.

The pedestrian, who has been identified by the Florence County Coroner’s Office as a 54-year-old Florence man, was taken to an area hospital where he was later declared dead of his injuries. The driver of the SUV, a Florence woman, was unharmed in the incident.

The Coroner’s Office is currently ruling the incident to be an accident.
