A Columbia middle school student died Wednesday morning of injuries suffered when he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, report media sources.
According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office the 11-year-old boy died at a local hospital of multiple trauma suffered in the traffic incident.
On Tuesday at around 2:40 p.m., the sixth grader was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Decker Boulevard, says the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The 35-year-old woman driving the vehicle was unharmed in the incident.
Soon after the incident a Richland School District Two spokesperson said that the district was encouraging people to keep the boy and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
As a Columbia personal injury lawyer, I have witnessed first-hand the shock and grief of those left behind after an unexpected death. My heartfelt condolences go out to the boy’s family, friends and loved ones. Despite my experience as a Columbia personal injury attorney, I cannot begin to imagine the impact that this event has had on this family and community. I do know how important it is for grieving people to have a strong support network. I hope the boy’s loved ones are getting the care and support they need during this difficult time.
