A crash about seven miles south of Bamberg on Monday afternoon killed a man from that city, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 2:55 p.m. crash occurred when a 1997 Ford truck traveling westbound on Colston Road veered off the right side of the road then crossed back over the roadway, exiting on the left side where it collided with some trees and rolled over.
The driver, a 43-year-old Bamberg man whom investigators believe was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck. According to the Bamberg County Coroner’s Office, the man died from blunt force trauma suffered after being ejected from the pickup.
The man’s death marks the sixth death from a motor vehicle crash in Bamberg County this year, equal to the total number of such fatalities in the two years prior.
